Microsoft’s OS stranglehold on PCs and laptops is slowly loosening as more and more computer manufacturers / assemblers are now becoming more and more responsive to offering Linux equipped units. Dell, the largest computer manufacturer in the world, announced that it will be adding a new laptop to its product line. This new addition – the Inspiron 1420 -- that will have Ubuntu Linux 7.04.
Dell’s decision to open more units that are available in a Linux flavor is a sign that more and more consumers are opening their eyes and realizing that there is an alternative to using Microsoft products, which could be quite expensive. With a growing number of Linux users, only time will tell if a critical mass can be attained.
